I think its tough being a guy in modern society. The traditional role of the man is significantly less defined leaving many men feeling frustrated and not really understanding why. Masculinity seems repressed and frowned upon but there are confused messages about whether men should get in touch with their feelings or whether moods are for women and children. The bond with fathers and grandfathers, or even significant male elders, that created the foundations for confident, high esteem adults, for many, doesn’t exist. Many men struggle to articulate what’s going on let alone take action to resolve it. This is all getting in the way of their success, relationships and overall happiness.
This might sound a bit dramatic but whilst studies from the Mental Health Foundation state that women are more likely to be treated for depression than men, they also say they believe this is because women are more likely to go to their GP. Other studies have shown that women generally get depressed in their late teens and early twenties whilst men are typically in their 40s and 50s and some researchers estimate that depression rates can be as high as 40% for middle aged men, which is significantly higher than women of that age.
Whilst traditional coaching is not designed to tackle depression (seek advice from your GP), I have successfully worked with men managing the many warning signs, such as stress and worry, lack of direction and motivation and feeling lost, supporting them to increased confidence, improved self-worth, greater peace, clearer direction, better relationships, improved happiness and more control. Just to dispel a few myths, coaching is not counselling or therapy, it doesn’t involve couches and delving into your past, its just a regular conversation with someone completely and utterly on your side, who listens to what you say without judgement and helps you achieve what you want in life. Sound good? For some it’s still a scary prospect but for the warriors out there it can provide an effective and highly pleasurable way forward.
If you are a guy and would like to experience coaching without commitment, call me today to book one of 10 complimentary sessions worth £95. Offer closes 30th August and is on a first come first served basis.
